What we are about

Dedicated to the welfare of underprivileged children

One Child Foundation was formed seven years ago when the war in Sri Lanka ended revealing the level of poverty in the community and sheer number of the children in orphanages that needed help. OCF was founded by a small group of friends and family members keen to help any child in need of help. Our initial aim was to provide funds from our own earnings and sponsor a handful of children. Over the next two years, more and more friends and  family members joined us and the number of children we sponsored also grew accordingly. Today,  the  charity born as a small private sponsorship programme has grown to benefit numerous children. Thanks to the corporate sponsors, private donations, sponsorship offers from friends and well-wishers and our Trustees' determination, the number of children  we  sponsor  keeps on growing.

Our Aims

1. Relieve Childhood Hunger

Working with United Nation’s World Food Programme and utilising the infrastructure of Oru Paanai, a UK Charity, we currently feed 11,500 children in 94 schools in two educational zones.

We also funded a vegetable farm in an orphanage which is currently providing all the vegetables the children need. In 2017, we funded purchase of 6 cows which are currently providing milk to the children in the same orphanage.

2. Offer Education as the most effective way to escape the cycle of deprivation

During 2015, we funded the education of 54 children in 4 schools and in 2016, we increased to 125 children in 12 schools. This year, in 2017, we are funding the education of 182 children, 180 of them in 14 schools and 2 are undergraduates in two universities.
